Long Hairstyles for Wedding

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

Prospective brides have several questions in their mind, one of them is: Are there any specific hairstyles for wedding, at all? The answer is: Yes, there are. In-fact; it is the bridal hairstyle only that provides the bride with its characteristic bridal look. The mount on the crown area or the quiff, as it is technically called, imparts to the bride, her peculiar look. Bridal hairstyles are decided depending on the face cuts of the every bride.

Interestingly, there are no specific short hairstyles for wedding. The beauticians add fake hairs or switches or ‘Parandis’, whichever possible, to add on to the length of the hairs of bride. Hence, short hairs ultimately become long hairs only. Long hairs are partitioned in different patterns according to different hairstyles. Although, bridal hairstyles are finalized, depending on the face cuts of the bride herself; still some three to four types of hairstyles are used, commonly.

Some commonly used long hairstyles for wedding are discussed as follows:

  1. Simple Bun at neck: Hairs are partitioned in two sections; one at the top – the crown area and the second one below the crown area, near the neck region. The first section is pinned in such a way that it makes a quiff at the top. Different patterns are followed from the front side, depending on the face cuts. Now, the hairs left out of quiff are again pinned and the rest of the hair length is used along with the second section. The hairs in the second sections are twisted in such a way that a bun is formed. The bun is again pinned to provide more stability.
  2. 2. Side Bun: This hairstyle for wedding is almost similar to the one mentioned above. The only difference is that the bun is made at one side and not in the centre, over the neck region. This hairstyle is sometimes preferred by bride-maids also.
  3. Flower Shaped Bun: Hairs are either partitioned in two sections, as mentioned above or all the hairs are collectively tied in a ponytail. Few strands are taken on finger, rolled around fingers to make a roll or say loop, the loop is then pinned around the pony tail. Likewise, strands are selected, looped and pinned in such a way that a flower is formed at the end. The loops correspond to the petals of the flower.

More long hairstyles can be devised and tried depending on the experimental level of the bride, her easiness to carry off the design smoothly without compromising the bride like feel. Different types of embellishments are used to adorn the hairstyles on wedding. Ornaments such as: Flower buds, flowers, beads, pearls, broaches, tiaras, hair-bands, fancy hairpins, laces etc are used in varied combinations for ornamenting the bride. Brides need to take proper care of her hairs as the hairs get worst affected during all the marriage preparations. Stress, anxiety and restlessness; all these cause hair-fall. Following proper diet, oil massaging and then taking hair spa are some of the remedial measures that can help in retaining the quality and shine of hairs.

Wedding fashion

Every occasion requires one to maintain a particular dress code. And one such very special occasion in an individual’s life is their wedding day. This is day is special for not only the couple coming together, but the entire family of both the bride and groom, as well as the relatives and friends invited. No wonder, since time immemorial wedding fashion is about the most expensive clothes, along with the jewelry. The bride is dressed to look like a queen.

According to Hindu philosophy and mythology the Gods and Goddesses also attend the wedding to shower their blessings on the couple. This adds to jubilation attached to a marriage. No wonder brides-to-be spend months together searching for the perfect wedding dress. Not only her, but even her immediate family and closest friends spend a long time going from shop-to-shop searching for what they should wear on that special day.

And if one thought that this was limited to just the bride, well even the groom is particular about what he is going to wear on the wedding day. Apart from the cold feet of tying the knot, he is also anxious about his clothes and accessories. Like in case of the bride this extends to his immediate family and friends. Such excitement exists in both the houses.

In spite of the constant changes in fashion through the years, yet the wedding fashion seems to have remained more or less the same. However, there are a lot of people, who prefer to skip excessive expenditure on their finery and opt for something realistic where pricing is concerned. There is an entire tribe of youth who do not look towards their parents to carry the expenditure of their wedding and prefer to spend from their own savings. And so they avid the designer wear and opt for the cheaper boutique garments. For them every Rupee saved is precious for their settling down.

Overlooking the price aspect, the fashion that prevails is the heavy ghagra choli, the sari or salwar kameez. These garments have been the traditional wedding dresses of the Indian women. However, depending on the caste and cultural background, there are modifications to these garments including casual wedding dresses. And along with the heavily embroidered outfit, there is a lot of jewelry to be worn. Generally a make up artist is hired to dress up the bride for her special day.

Another aspect that has remained a constant in Indian wedding fashion is the henna that is applied on the hands and feet of the bride. A henna artist is called either a day or two before the wedding. She sketches on the hands and feet of the bride fine designs. Her assistants sketch designs on the hands of all the females related to the bride.

A wedding in an Indian family is one of the happiest occasions celebrated, till date with great aplomb.
