choosing make up

Monday, September 7th, 2009

A touch of bronzer or a shade of brown over the eye does create a good blending with the normal tones we choose to wear as make up. One must remember to use make up to highlight features rather than hide flaws. Deft strokes over the jawline or properly arching the eyebrows does wonders to the face. Perfect eyes are more about exuding confidence that comes with fashion etiquettes and a bit of mixing.

Skin gets blotchy or becomes dry as per the season. Though one would love to flaunt eye make up, rainy season is not the ideal time for heavy mascara and Smokey eyes. A bit of kohl and eye shadow of the water proof variety is a better option. Lip colors are in with glitter and glam shades that can create a diva impromptu. The best tip for a makeover is not a changeover but subtle improvements in donning the make up.

Lead cosmetic brands come up with entire packages for skin, moisturizers and eye make up which are easy buys and tailored as per skin type. Many of us do insist on long lasting colors that do not wear off as the day progresses. Re touching need be minimal when we invest in branded cosmetics. Assorted color palettes are also suited as per your skin color. Plump up your lips with great many shades like rose, cherry or scarlet.

Brown seems the friendly choice for dusky people, but there are many shades this season which when coordinated with accessories and right application will help you choose other tones in blushers and eye make up. Translucent powder does much to help you forming the foundation for the face. Use the moisture compacts and remember to cover the same in the neck area. Lip gloss or balms for regular wears lined with lip liners seem subtle yet does wonders to the every day look.

traditional attires

Come rains and India is full of festivals. Going from the Shravan inclusion, people throng the shops for ready fits and also visit the tailor to get dresses stitched in the latest cuts. This is time for vibrant colors, traditional make up and the fervor increases as the festivity gives us more opportunities to mingle and dress. Outfits of the fusion kind are a great solace to people who love change and experimentation.

Earrings and pendant sets are also considered a sensible investment during the festive season. New designs with dramatic designs are seen in stones, kundan jewelry, diamonds and pearls. The right choker with earrings and chunky bangles would be perfect to compliment the ensemble. Modest sets in semi precious stones are also great buys in emerald and turquoise jewelry.

The traditional sari can also be seen with new combinations and colors that promise a lot of good tidings to match the festive atmosphere. Go for simple styles in drape during the day wear and evening get togethers can be seen in darker tones. Comfort clothing is still present in the tight fit slacks in earthy colors and a tunic to match the outfit. Go for flip flops or the kolhapuri for a visit to the shrine and done the veil over the head for a complete traditional avtaar.

Baby girl styles are also easy with zip ons and layers that are comfortable. Matching pin up dupattas in cotton as well as silk blends is another way to make the comfort quotient available. Baby boy clothes can be seen in the Rakhi special outfits like achkans and churidars that has a crisp and neat look with interesting colors. Handloom kurtas for men are real cool this season with shades in silk that gives a certain texture to the outfit.

Make up skills are more about water proof concealers, glow blushers and also kohl liners that gives a smudge free look to the appearance. Moisturizing is another rule about monsoon as flaky skin is a downer. Go for striking shades in nail color and manicures/pedicures are very important during this season.

Monsoon Make-up

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Most of us are worried about our make-up when the monsoons arrive. We have some tips for you to protect yourself and your make-up when it’s raining.

First of all, avoid applying thick make-up as it has the risk of being washed out. Wear light and subtle make-up. Nowadays, there is waterproof make-up available in the market, like waterproof mascaras, liners, foundation and lipsticks. You can opt for these.

Besides, avoid using foundation if not necessary, or use it as a concealer. Face powder is a better option to remove the oiliness off your face. Avoid using pressed powder during the rains. While using eye-shadows, put the cream shadows away and instead use the powdered shadows. Opt for colours like pink and brown which are easier to maintain.

Blush should be applied lightly so that it doesn’t look like a spot of colour on your face. Cream blushers are water-friendly. If your face gets wet, you just need to pat it with a tissue. Again chose colours which are easier to maintain and go with your skin type.

Avoid using the wet eye liners during the monsoons. Instead use a kajal pencil as a liner. Also avoid using liquid lip colours and gloss for this season. Instead use lip balm and matte lipsticks which will also moisturize your lips.

Lastly, it is quite difficult to handle your hair during the rainy season. Put away the sprays and gels since they will get washed away anyways. Try and keep your hair tied to avoid frizz. Dry your hair quickly with a hair dryer once it gets wet. Avoid ironing or curling your hair artificially since it would not last for long during the monsoons.

There is absolutely no need to worry this season. You can glow and look pretty even while it’s raining. And the best alternative is to keep it natural!

Get going for your D-day now

Three months to go for your wedding day and you are nervous about managing and looking your best. Here are some of the tips you can try: Treat yourself to a monthly facial at a parlour. If you do not want to go and spend a bomb, try a deep clean face mask. You can try the orange peel off mask that is supposedly good for all skin types. Do not worry and invite stress if your face gets a few spots. It is your body’s way of getting rid of the impurities.

Chipped skin and dirty feet? Start taking care of your feet months in advance. Go for regular pedicures. Clean them and scrub them regularly on weekends. To get rid of the rough dead skin, moisturize them with a feet moisturizer every night.

Same goes for the hands as well. Massage in a cuticle cream every night. For people who complain or weak and easy brittle nails, start applying nail strengthener regularly. Also, scrub your nails and moisturize them before going off to sleep.

Giving attention to face, hands and legs is not enough. Use a natural bristle brush once a week to make your skin soft and supple. Follow this with a body lotion. Replace your tea and coffee with a glass of warm water and lemon. This will help your skin to look fresh and supple. Consult a nutritionist and eat right. Also, join a gym or exercise regularly to keep yourself fit.
