graduation dresses

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Graduation days are very important in terms of achievement and milestones. To mark the event and enhance the glory one has to be proper and neat in appearance. Also this is a time for the first make over in your life and also the time to get off the girl-next-door look. Usually graduation dresses and events are utterly formal with award receiving, honoring and merit acknowledgement. Prepare a few lines to say your acceptance and farewell speeches.

Working hard is certainly essential but at the same time long hours in studies must have gathered a few dark circles and frizzy hair. Go in to the best spa and pamper yourself with the grooming must-haves. Enquire about any formal uniform that is required for the award event or else splurge some money or rather invest in a designer outfit. The graduation dress is certainly about accentuating a new look and also expresses your assertiveness.

White is normally a preferred choice by many. If you rather prefer a conservative look then go for the corporate kind of look with prim striped trousers, white shirts with a formal jacket and go in for a neat haircut. The party event can transform you to almost a glam image that can be seen in the short jersey straight fit dress. Keep the sleeveless elbow length and neck in V with big gold buttons that accentuate your trim waist.

If you really wish to go in for a casual look then invest in a salsa dress that is full of gathers and feathers that is perfect to match the steps of your dance partner. Glamour colors are certainly peacock blue, aqua marine and red. Canary yellow, light blue and peach gowns look wonderful for day events. The color usually shifts with the lightings and hence uses the make up to the best. Practice a few dept strokes with the blusher and go in to create a jaw line. Use a stole, gloves and neat footwear to flaunt the dress.

Grooming

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Prior to personality development the concept of grooming has to be clearly understood by all of us. We are all drawn towards someone who is tidy in their appearance. Personalities who are influential take good care of their grooming. Grooming is a complete process which enhances the appeal of a person. Certain grooming terms are essential and also a matter of hygiene.

A regular routine of waxing is almost compulsory as a clean image moulds in a better personality. A visit to the salon for this purpose is also a great stress buster. A monthly oil massage with herbal preparations is a great way to rejuvenate the nerves. The essential part of grooming allows you to go in for many styles in hair and clothes. Prior to wearing clothes it is important to check for buttons, zips and fasteners.

Any hairstyle takes about four days to settle. This is important to note to avoid bad hair days. In case you occasionally get into a bad-hair-day then it is better to cover the hair with a scarf or secure the hair with a scrunchie. A clear skin is more important than a fair complexion. Check for chipped nail polish, zits, acnes and also dandruff flakes before your start dressing.

The hairstyle of a person must always complement the clothes and occasion. There are invisible bob pins, clips and hair bands that suit the hairstyle of a person. Comfort must be the highlight of any kind of hairstyle. The apparel/fabric must also suit the venue and climate. Grooming also includes the use of a good moisturizer that takes care of dry skin and gives an even tone to the body.

For feeling good, smelling good is imperative. So remember to pack in your deodorant and choose one as per the climate.

Laws on the Timeline of Style

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Ever wondered if fashion also has a timeline? Well it does. James Laver who was a famous costume historian and a past Keeper of the robes at the London Victoria and Albert Museum introduced this concept. He was a key person contributing on dress and its relationship to society. His law is popularly known as laver’s law.
Laver’s Law states that fashions have a timeline and this is the way it is considered when it is worn before or after time: -
Indecent 10 years before its time
Shameless 5 years before its time
Daring 1 year before its time
Smart ———-
Dowdy 1 year after its time
Hideous 10 years after its time
Ridiculous 20 years after its time
Amusing 30 years after its time
Quaint 50 years after its time
Charming 70 years after its time
Romantic 100 years after its time
Beautiful 150 years after its time

Laver’s law was tested and found to be very incisive. It was in the 70’s that Dr. Roy Strong wrote about Laver’s law in the Times after which it became very popular. With the help of this law, you can now look at your own wardrobe and decide for yourself what is smart, what is beautiful and what is ridiculous. It is also a great time to check out your granny’s clothes and see if they are still in vogue!
Anything that is older than twenty years and is in a good condition, it may be valuable. There are many people around that world that are collecting these things and this is described as vintage.
