It is just recently that I have developed my fetish for shoes. Earlier, I never paid that much attention to my shoes. I would always prefer to go for a simple pair of shoes that would be comfortable to wear and allow me a snug walk on the busy streets of Mumbai. However, seeing and reading so much about shoes, I decided to have my own little collection too that I can boast of! So the coming few posts will give you a lot of fashion gyan about different types of shoes and where to wear them so that you only make fashion statements and no faux pas!

Today, we will talk about gladiators. Now for those who do not know what gladiators are, they are raw strappy flat sandals and they have their roots in the ancient cities of Rome and Greece where people wore them to war. Today’s gladiators are more stylish and are usually worn over skirts, capris and ancient styled knee length dresses. Gladiators are not supposed to be worn on ethnic Indian dresses such as salwar kameez and churidaar kurta! Also since gladiators have a very raw casual feel to it, you do not wear them for dinners and formal occasions. You wear them as you go for shopping, or an informal brunch or places like that!

Now gladiators of various lengths are available. You need to choose a length that flatters your legs. Knee length gladiators are unforgiving of thick calves, so you need to make a choice accordingly. Do not forget that since the front part of your feet will be seen, you need to follow your pedicure routine!

All kinds of regular wear like trapeze dresses, khaki shorts, long tops, A-line dresses, shirt dresses are all eligible to be worn along with your gladiators. Gladiators are usually in your face types and can be seen distinctly so do not wear heavy chunky accessories as it may be too much for someone to see! Just give all the due attention to your glads! Another good news is that in case you are conscious to wear flats because of your height, heeled gladiators are also available. The first timers should invest in a brown or a black pair that easily goes with all kinds of clothes. So what are you waiting for? Do go pick up one and flaunt them as you walk down the street!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

We all wear shoes for different purposes. It could be casual, formal or for sports related reasons. Shoes protect our feet. Remember the hard work they do in transporting us from one place to another. They are also subject to wear and tear if you don’t take good care of shoes. Yes, shoes can work even when you don’t care but that does not mean you have to ignore them and buy a new one.

If you have formal shoes, you must have seen them accumulating dirt on inner sole and in sides. Dirt creates a unpleasant outline of your feet and even toe marks. In that case just use a mixture of washing soap and water over them. Cleanliness factor will bounce back on your shoes. One suggestion is never to pile heeled shoes over one another. You can also use a cloth shoe bag and a box to protect them.

If you are fond of boots and is a proud owner of boots pair then you ought to store them properly during summer and monsoon. Boots cannot be used throughout the year and better to put them properly during times when you don’t wear them. A regular use of shoe polish will be very health for your boots.

Many of you must be using sneakers. However don’t forget to wash them on a regular basis. Sneakers get dirty and worn out quite soon so try to take care of them. While washing, use a toothbrush and some soap water to scrub the shoes. This will give them some shine. Take good care of your shoes and they will take care of your feet.

Wedge Heels

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Wedge heels represent heels that run the length of the sole or base of the shoe — in the shape of a block. This is distinguished from other types of heels that simply offer a heel that falls down from the heel of the foot and arrives to a tip. Usually wedge heels appear in summery shoes, with open toes, in slides, or in strappy sandals.

Wedges come in various colours and designs. One of the most trendy wedge heels in the late 70s and early 80s was prepared by the shoe maker Candies. These shoes had firm plastic block heels which yet again became temporarily in style in the 1990s and 2000s.

Many people confuse wedge heels with platform shoes. The two styles are not equally exclusive. They have some similarities; however, wedge heels are not always platforms. at times the wedge simply raises the upper portion of the foot, sliding to a thin sole below the balls and toes.

Wedge heels are always in vogue and never out of style. They usually offer a more stability than the typical heel, because the wedge expands out from the whole sole of the shoe. You don’t have to balance on a pointed heel as the wedge lets you rest your entire heel on the floor. If you find it difficult to walk in heels, wedge heels can be a fine way to start.

Most women find wedge heels comparatively more comfortable than stiletto or kitten heel styles and those with rubberized wedges can offer a little bounce. Wedge heels on a little rubber platform can also be fairly comfy to wear.

Wedge heels are usually categorized under casual wear. You can wear wedges with jeans, dresses, flowing skirts, jeans and even capris. They go with almost everything and make you look stylish and chic.

Boots - An ultimate fashion statement

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

One of the main essentials to make yourself look “hot” or “sexy” are boots! They can never go out of trend. Boots are footwear that don’t just cover your feet but goes high upto your ankle or even higher, maybe till your knee. In places where winters are longer and more severe, boots are the ideal fashion wear for girls. Boots help one and all to make their distinctive fashion statement. They come in different types, colours, textures, and heels. There is another footwear category resembling the boot style but is completely flat called Bootie.

There are some things you should keep in mind while buying boots for yourself. Firstly, check the grip or the support it provides. If the boots are too soft, the can cause trouble to your feet, especially your ankle. Conversely, if they are too hard, they may result in limping and stumbling. You should always keep in mind your body weight while selecting a pair of boots. Your city’s climate and the ground quality are other things to be looked into pre-purchase.
The ideal boots are the ones that fits you well because they provide the required comfort and ease. A good fit is defined as the one that gives your toes sufficient space to breathe and offers adequate support. The fit also relies on the material or texture of the boots.
Boots uptil your thigh are very popular, especially among celebrities. They look elegant and trendy but are equally uncomfortable. They go best with body clinging denims and make you look stylish. The ankle length boots look comparatively casual and can be worn with an informal attire. Besides, choose the type of heels in which you are most comfortable and which looks best on you.
So if you don’t own a pair of these flamboyant footwear, go buy yourself one immediately. Don’t think twice before flaunting them, because they add a touch of glamour to the most simple outfit.
